If this year has taught us anything, it’s the importance of outside spaces and, as thoughts turn to summer entertaining, garden makeovers are high on the agenda.
We’re looking for our gardens to work harder than ever before. They’ve essentially grown into another room – one where we cook, relax and socialise. While once they were simply a place for the children and the dog to run around in, now they are multi-purpose spaces we want to enjoy whenever we can.
Tiles can play a big part in creating a space that looks fantastic and is super practical too. If you’re looking to extend your kitchen into the garden – perhaps with bi-fold or French doors – then larger-format tiles in a muted shade can work really well.
Porcelain tiles – such as those from our Odyssey or Barbican collections – are a good example and are super-practical too. Their soft shades create a seamless feel when looking out over a terrace from the kitchen, giving you a feeling of light and space.
Decorative tiles can look gorgeous in an outdoor space, too. Perfect for patios, pathways or to create zones in the garden, they make an outdoor space very special. Tiles in our Urban collection have geometric patterns with an industrial twist and been designed to be super-hardwearing and so are perfect for being out in all weathers.
Pretty patterns look fresh in a garden and tiles from our encaustic, French-inspired Toulouse collection are ideal for creating a summery feel whatever the weather.
Don’t shy away from plain tiles, though. They, too, can make a strong style statement, particularly if you choose a bold, sumptuous colour. These Bert & May Forest Green tiles look fantastic on a terrace and add a jewel-like glimmer in the sunshine.
