Frequently Asked Questions
Zellige tiles are hand-cut, glazed terracotta tiles with origins in Morocco. Each tile is individually shaped and fired, so colour and surface vary naturally from piece to piece. No two tiles are identical. That handmade variation gives finished surfaces a depth and authenticity you simply can't get from machine-made alternatives.
Zellige tiles are suitable for bathroom walls and wet areas. Seal them correctly and use an appropriate grout, and they'll perform well. The glazed surface resists water, but the terracotta body benefits from a protective sealant. For bathroom, check the suitability of your chosen tile before committing.
Zellige tiles are easy to look after. Avoid abrasive or acidic cleaners, which can dull the glaze. A soft cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner is all you need to keep them looking their best. Clean them regularly and they'll stay in good condition.
Zellige tiles come in a wide tonal range. The glaze produces subtle variation within a single colour, so each installation has its own character. They work particularly well in kitchens, bathrooms and on feature walls. Our best selling Zellige Tiles are White, Raw, Ochre and Green.
Zellige tiles are best suited to walls and splashbacks. You can use them on floors in low-traffic areas, but check the slip rating and tile hardness first. For high-traffic floors, we'd recommend a more hardwearing surface material. Pair it with zellige on the walls for a cohesive finish.
